The Compulsory Enforcement Service is a separate division of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia operating within the system of the Ministry, which ensures the compulsory enforcement of acts provided for by the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On Compulsory Enforcement of Judicial Acts".

Compulsory enforcement is a special type of state service, the peculiarities of which are defined by the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On Compulsory Enforcement Service".

Adherence to the principles of rule of law, respect for human and citizens' rights and freedoms, honour and dignity, as well as to the principles of humanity and publicity lie at the core of the activities of the Compulsory Enforcement Service.

The Enforcement Service is a standalone unit operating within the system of the Ministry of Justice, which in line with the Penal Code of the Republic of Armenia provides for the enforcement of court-administered punishments, exercises control over the compliance with the liabilities imposed on conditionally released persons, the keeping in custody of convicted and sentenced persons. The Enforcement Service may implement other duties stipulated by law.

The Probation Service is a subordinate entity under the Ministry of Justice, supposed to prevent unlawful behavior on the part of the accused during criminal proceedings and to ensure that he or she complies with the responsibilities imposed by the law-court by enforcing the punishment and implementing other measures of coercion against a person recognized guilty of a crime, as well as to reinstate justice and re-socialize the offenders. With regard to offenders under age, the Probation Service should provide for the normal development of their physical and mental capacities and safeguard them against another person’s negative influence.
