Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
About the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)
The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is a global association whose Standard promotes the open and accountable management of natural resources, particularly in the extractive industries sector.
As of 2026, 55 countries are implementing the EITI Standard, reflecting the Initiative’s global relevance and impact.
The governance of the international EITI Association is carried out by the EITI Board, which is composed of representatives from implementing countries, supporting countries, and civil society organizations. In each implementing country, the application of the EITI Standard is overseen by a multi-stakeholder group (MSG)—a coalition of representatives from government, extractive companies, and civil society.
The EITI Standard requires the disclosure and publication of all key information along the extractive value chain—from the extraction of natural resources to their impact on citizens. This includes, in particular: how licenses and contracts are awarded and registered; who benefits from these processes; the applicable legal and fiscal frameworks; production volumes; revenues generated for the state budget; how these revenues are allocated; and the sector’s contribution to the economy, including employment.
The Standard is periodically revised to reflect emerging challenges and developments in natural resource governance. The most recent revision, the 2023 EITI Standard, has expanded its scope to include requirements on anti-corruption procedures within companies, disclosure of national energy transition commitments, policies and plans, reporting on proven reserves, greenhouse gas emissions data, and gender and social impact considerations, among others.
Armenia’s Membership in the EITI
Armenia joined the EITI on 9 March 2017. The Government of the Republic of Armenia made this decision as part of its commitments under the Open Government Partnership, viewing EITI as an important tool to enhance transparency in the governance of the extractive sector, promote participation of businesses and civil society, and strengthen anti-corruption efforts.
In Armenia, oversight of the EITI process is carried out by a 15-member Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG), while implementation is administered by the EITI National Secretariat, headed by the National Coordinator.
